The New Man (As a Babe) -2

Babies are cute . They are a blessing . They bring joy to families everyday but babies require work . Babies need care and attention from parents and caregivers . They can get messy and cause so much commotion if left unattended. In a similar way , the new man or a born again Christian is referred to as a babe in Christ for these same reasons ! I mentioned in my previous post ‘The New Man – Part 1’ that to become a Born again Christian , a spiritual rebirth happens and not necessarily a physical one . A spiritual babe has all the same problems that a physical one has if you ask me . A spiritual babe needs food to grow . A spiritual babe needs care and much attention . If you have a physical baby and neglect their basic needs and requirements , a mother would really regret that outcome . Similarly , a spiritual babe needs intentional care for the first few months and even more as they grow and mature in the Lord .

The Bible says in 1 Peter 2:2 ,

“Like newborn babies [you should] long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may be nurtured and grow in respect to salvation [its ultimate fulfillment],”

1 Peter 2:2 AMP

The food is the milk which is the word of God . It is interesting to note that the Bible makes reference being pure and sincere which is what happens when you get milk from the source . It is not altered and it contains all the nutrients that the baby needs . Babies’ first milk from the mothers has a component called colostrum and that is so necessary for the growth of the child . It is the purest meal from a true source . Babies long for this and they can get terrible tantrums for this . I have even seen an instance where a baby got slightly cyanotic as his desire for that milk was not being met . As you are a spiritual babe , your desire for the word of God should be very strong . Your desire for the word of God is linked to your growth . There may be many supplementary meals like songs , messages , revelations from others but until you desire and read the word for yourself , you will never truly grow well . I am encouraging you to desire and read the word like never before . God is the true source and he will teach you all things . Your growth depends on it .

The Bible also says in 1st Corinthians 3:1-2

“However, brothers and sisters, I could not talk to you as to spiritual people, but [only] as to worldly people [dominated by human nature], mere infants [in the new life] in Christ! I fed you with milk, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Even now you are still not ready.”

As a babe , you cannot receive everything , and everything will not be perfect in one day . You have to understand that you are undergoing a process of growth . Many people backslide because they think that they will be made perfect as soon as they decided to give themselves to Christ . Do not be deceived . To be a spiritual babe is a great blessing and it is an exciting new journey . You may be messy initially but It takes patience and discipline . You will and you must grow as no one remains a baby for a lifetime . Continue feeding yourself with the milk of the word daily and you will experience tremendous growth .
