The New Man (As a Royal Priesthood )-5

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”

1 Peter 2:9 KJV

I attended a Catholic High School ( Campion College) for seven years in Kingston , Jamaica . I remember vividly how awestruck I was when I saw a Catholic priests for the first time during one of our masses . At that time , I did not understand much about what priests were required to do. I could just recall how he would lead us through Holy Communion and how glorious he looked as they shared powerful messages with us from the Bible . I remembered thinking how unique and special they were and how much they must love God.

A priest is a person who is required to act as a mediator between God and mere man. He is an ambassador for God who administers certain sacraments including baptism, confirmation, confession, holy communion, marriage , holy orders and anointing of the sick.

Christians today are a royal priesthood in the eyes of God . In Israel , one tribe was given the role of serving as priests and functioning as the mediator between God and the rest of the nation. Only very few people were able to actually go into the presence of God . Through Christ , all believers are priests with direct access to God . You now are promoted to a high rank and freedom which exempts you from control of everyone but God

Now, we need no mediator as we have direct access to God through Jesus Christ. I always think how embarrassing it must be if I had to confess some of my darkest sins to even one human beings . This is an intimate, unique, and special position which is worthy of your acceptation. I thank God for this glorious opportunity.

We are HIS royal priesthood !

Be blessed !
