The Christ in Me by Martina Hewitt

Hi, my name is Martina, I am 20 years old and I am from the Cayman Islands B.W.I. Melissa and I met through mutual friends and we spoke for the first time over video call , and I am glad to say we have been friends ever since. Unfortunately, I have not gotten the privilege to meet Melissa in person yet, but she is such an inspiration and I pray I will get the opportunity to meet her sooner rather than later.

To me being a Christian is more about the relationship I have with God , than following a strict religious regime. My renewed friendship with God has come through God’s generosity towards me in Jesus who has given me a new life and great hope. The ministration of the word of God has always been paramount and practical for my day to day living. God is the living water and He gives me the breath of life, two very essential aspects of human existence.

The powerful thing is that these two things not only cater to the physical man but also to the spiritual. When Jesus came, He re-presented the gospel to those who were lost and then commanded us to do the same in the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:16-20. The practicality of the message of Christ relies on our understanding of the word of God.

The word of God is living and active.” Hebrews 4:12 and “The written word of God accomplishes God’s purposes.” Isaiah 55:11.

I strive every day to make the word of God and the message of Jesus concrete in my life, just to know that I am loved beyond measure, that He chose me and continues to choose me even when others forsake me, that He never leaves me and that His grace is sufficient.

Receiving all these affirmations from His word has changed my life. I have faced many challenges but one of which being a struggle I had with anxiety. It was really tough but two overwhelming scriptures that have stuck with me throughout that struggle. The scriptures that have helped me get through it (anxiety ) alongside the prayers and support of some amazing people that God has placed in my life are :

Psalm 46: 10 “Be still and know that I am God” and 2 Corinthians 12:9 “He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

This is the subtle reassurance of the Father. All I must do is come into spiritual serenity with Him because in my moments of weakness He is strong. He has helped me overcome my anxiety and any other obstacles and struggles that come my way!
