My family house has a number of trees that grow and produce much fruit . I always notice how my father would carefully prune the vines and it would result in fresh branches after . If left long enough , these branches would bring forth sub branches and without much maintenance , there would be a full blown tree .
“Behold (listen closely), the days are coming,” says the LORD, “When I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; And He will reign as King and act wisely And will do [those things that accomplish] justice and righteousness in the land.”
Jeremiah 23:5 AMP
A branch produces and a branch gives life . Jeremiah prophecies that a righteous branch which is Jesus Christ would reign as king . This was in response to the poor leadership of the former kings who exploited God’s people for their personal gratification .
“I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.”
John 15:5 AMP
Through Jesus Christ as the righteous branch , we are able to bring forth a fruit of righteousness . Without abiding in Him, there is no fruit that we can produce . Our productivity in God is hinged on how connected we are to the branch . We have to be connected to Jesus Christ if we can do or be anything at all . You may think that you are doing something but without Jesus , it is essentially nothing . There is no life in your branch and you will eventually dry up.
Our righteousness ( right stance with God ) is as a result of our faith connection to the branch Jesus Christ .
Get connected !
Be blessed !
I love your definition of “righteousness.” I know some people who think that Christian righteousness is “prideful,” but the Bible clearly states otherwise. Thank you for sharing this!
