Day 26- My Jesus Journal – The Faithful Bridegroom

The repercussions of infidelity in a relationship are devastating . It is one of the most difficult sins to pardon . Pain in tandem with lost trust results in couples separating and moving on with their lives . Hosea was instructed by God to reclaim his wife Gomer although she was an adulteress . One can imagine how difficult and painful it must have been for Hosea who must have felt rejected and hurt . This command was a hard decision but one that was possible by one reason or through one person .

“Then GOD ordered me, “Start all over: Love your wife again, your wife who’s in bed with her latest boyfriend, your cheating wife. Love her the way I, GOD, love the Israelite people, even as they flirt and party with every god that takes their fancy.”
‭‭Hosea‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭MSG‬‬

If you ask me , to love , is quite supernatural. Naturally , it is difficult to love someone after such a great offense . Note that God did not instruct Hosea to just love his adulterous wife but to love her as He loved the people of Israel ! That is the difference . That is a deepest and purest form of love . One that is without fear and mistrust even after what she had done .

“Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church—a love marked by giving, not getting. Christ’s love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her, dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness. And that is how husbands ought to love their wives. They’re really doing themselves a favor—since they’re already “one” in marriage.”

Many people are not able to love like Christ because they have not accepted Christ . When you accept Christ and understand his undying love for us , you have the ability to love like he loved . In both scriptures , the husbands were not only instructed to love , but to love ‘as’ Christ loved us .

“My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and experiences a relationship with God. The person who refuses to love doesn’t know the first thing about God, because God is love—so you can’t know him if you don’t love. This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God.”
