Day 35 – My Jesus Journal – The Gift of Contentment

Life can be a cycle where we think that doing more for ourselves, means that we earn more and become better versions of ourselves and even richer . It is an interesting mindset and it can be summed up in a Jamaican colloquial :

“Waan ti waan ti , nuh get ih and get ih get ih nuh waan ti” which means the more you want is the more you do not get , and the more you get , is the more you do not want .

And then a little later, GOD -of-the-Angel-Armies spoke out again: “Take a good, hard look at your life. Think it over. You have spent a lot of money, but you haven’t much to show for it. You keep filling your plates, but you never get filled up. You keep drinking and drinking and drinking, but you’re always thirsty. You put on layer after layer of clothes, but you can’t get warm. And the people who work for you, what are they getting out of it? Not much— a leaky, rusted-out bucket, that’s what.”
‭‭Haggai‬ ‭1:5-6‬ ‭MSG‬‬

The prophet Haggai was highlighting the indifference of the people who returned to Jerusalem. They sought self satisfaction and in their pursuit, they had nothing much to show for it . It is clear that our desires to get and attain more in this life of vanity only leads to a big pile of nothingness . We drink so much and yet we are still thirsty for more things , more possessions , more vain assets. It is not until we try the living water that we would truly be filled !

The woman at Samaria thought that Jesus was thirsty when He asked her for a drink of water . Jesus reversed the situation and made it clear that she was really the thirsty one in the situation . There are many reasons why she thought that she was not thirsty and it may just be because she was at the well . Little did she know that that well would not be able to sustain her for what she was thirsting after .Jesus Christ offered himself as the living water . The truth is Jesus Christ is a continual spring that never runs dry . Life never remains the same when we give ourselves to Him . Our desires can even be satisfied with content and godliness . We no longer have an insatiable desire for things and possessions that never truly satisfy . That is the gift of God ! You would also be a well that teaches other people to be content in Jesus Christ .

The Samaritan woman, taken aback, asked, “How come you, a Jew, are asking me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?” (Jews in those days wouldn’t be caught dead talking to Samaritans.) Jesus answered, “If you knew the generosity of God and who I am, you would be asking me for a drink, and I would give you fresh, living water.”
‭‭John‬ ‭4:9-10‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭4:13-14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Being content is actually a gift from God !

Be Blessed!
