Day 37 – My Jesus Journal – The Greatest Gift of Love

It is so unfortunate that love is always questioned . It is as if there has to be a reason or ‘strings attached’ to the fact that someone confesses their undying love to you . That is what we expect from the love that comes from the world . Whenever we are told that we are loved or appreciated , it is like we immediately attempt to recall what we have done in the past 24 hours or past week that warrants a declaration of love . Almost always , we reject the love before we believe it, thinking that we have to do something in order to be loved .

“Israel, I, the Lord, have loved you. And yet you ask in what way have I loved you. Don’t forget that Esau was the brother of your ancestor Jacob, but I chose Jacob”
‭‭Malachi‬ ‭1:2‬ ‭CEV‬‬

The people of Israel did not really feel that God love them and asked how and where He has loved them . It is as if they could not just be satisfied with the fact that they were loved . The Gospel is that simple : God loves us even though we did not do anything . His love is greater than anything that we could or could not do.

“God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭CEV‬‬

God loved us before he even gave or did anything . He simply loved . The Bible could have said that ‘He gave’ then ‘He loved ‘ but it was the opposite . Love precedes any great action . Love dominated and love rules anything that God does for us .

You can rest in His love . You can have peace in His love . His love is not fleeting and changing and so it casts out any fear . That is the truth of the Gospel . He loved us even before we responded to his love . The greatest gift of love is Jesus Christ !
