Day 42- My Jesus Journal – The Temptation of Jesus

To be a Christian is to sign up for your own personalized bouts of temptations . I say they are personalized because you cannot be tempted with something that does not or would not entice you . You are always tempted with something you can live without . A temptation is designed to allure you to do something that is wrong or immoral and as people aspiring to be like Christ , that is a long list .

When I gave my life to Christ for the first time , o thought that I would be exempt from temptations . To my surprise , I was tempted with so many things and unfortunately I was not able to overcome as I did not know the secret to overcoming .

In Matthew 3: 1-4 , notice how Jesus was personally tempted as a result of his hungry state .

“Then Jesus was led by the [Holy] Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After He had gone without food for forty days and forty nights, He became hungry. And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But Jesus replied, “It is written and forever remains written, ‘M AN SHALL NOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE, BUT BY EVERY WORD THAT COMES OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.’ ”

Jesus Christ , though hungry and tempted used the powerful word of God to stand against the wiles of the devil . He did not appear to be strong and utter anything else but the word of God . We react in a wrong way because we trust ourselves and what we think than they word of God . The word of God is very practical and it is your defense in the day of trouble . What actually happens when you speak the word of God is that you activate a spiritual sword that wrestles against the powers of the devil . No wonder the Psalmist said he hid the word in his heart so that he might not sin against God .

“Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart, That I may not sin against You.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119:11‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Begin to read the word so that you would have a weapon to use in the day of trouble . You may avoid some temptations but some temptations come in your favorite form wrapped in a beautiful package and waiting for you to open it . Learn the word of God so that you can overcome in that day ! Be ready always with your spiritual sword !
