Day 48- My Jesus Journal – The Reward of Meekness

“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

More often than not , meekness is associated with weakness and general simplicity but the meaning runs deeper if you are looking at it from Christ’s perspective . The origin of “meek” in English comes from the Greek origin, praus, which is translated as “strength under control.” When I think of Christ , I do not see Him as weak or simple but rather one who has strength under control .

Many times we have the strength and the power to do many things in our lives . We can choose to be manipulative or make tyrannical ultimatums as we would like or just merely reinforce our perceived importance . Jesus has strength , but he chose to be obedient, even to the death of the cross !

Why did God send Jesus to come to this earth and then die ? Couldn’t God just send a message through one of the Prophets ? I believe that it is a great example of meekness , after all Jesus has so power but He made himself of no reputation just so that you and I could experience salvation.

“But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:7-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Meekness is accepting to serve knowing that you have all the strength to do so much . Let’s take on this important characteristic of Christ as we seek to be more like Him ! The reward for the meek is that they inherit the earth . Notice Jesus’ reward in Phillipians as He was meek , He was raised up to the most important place !

“Because of that, God then raised Jesus Christ to the most important place. God gave him the name that is greater than every other name. As a result, when people hear Jesus’ name, they must worship him. Everyone will have to go down on their knees in front of him. That includes everything that is in heaven, everything on the earth and everything under the earth.”
