Day 50- My Jesus Journal – Mercy Personified

Our very nature as human beings means that we , though filled with good intentions, are inherently bad . Our conception and birth is tinged with sin and evil . If you ask me , we don’t deserve much , after all if death was the judgement for sin , we wouldn’t stand a chance . In that long list of things we don’t deserve , there is mercy because what place has mercy for one who is sinful ? What place has mercy for one who by nature is prone to every evil act under the sun ?

Yet Jesus in his Infinite wisdom encourage us in Mathew 5:7 that we ought to be merciful for in being merciful , we also obtain mercy .

“Blessed [content, sheltered by God’s promises] are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:7‬ ‭AMP‬‬

That is the mercy that we don’t deserve at all. If being merciful is the currency to obtain God’s mercy then that’s a small price to pay because He sent mercy in the form of Jesus Christ even before we knew ourselves. He sent mercy in the form of Jesus Christ even before we knew we were sinful and inherently bad . He sent mercy in the form of Jesus Christ even before we understood what if even meant to be merciful or to show mercy .

Jesus also taught that being merciful is even more important than anything sacrificed because he did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance .

“Go and learn what this [Scripture] means: ‘I DESIRE COMPASSION [for those in distress], AND NOT [animal] SACRIFICE,’ for I did not come to call [to repentance] the [self-proclaimed] righteous [who see no need to change], but sinners [those who recognize their sin and actively seek forgiveness].”

We could have sacrificed every pleasurable thing in this world to be deemed righteous but where would you be if not for mercy .

Choose to be merciful today ! You’re blessed when you are and you would also receive mercy !
