Day 59 – My Jesus Journal – The Narrow Gate

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:13-14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The first thing that comes to mind when I see this scripture is a tightrope walker who is trying to make it from one end of the rope to the next . A tightrope walker is determined and focused on the mission because the slightest mishap can cause the greatest catastrophe. That is similar to the gate that leads to life . The narrow gate that leads to life involves believing in Jesus Christ, and becoming more like Him by living by the standards that is outlined in scripture . Many people however, do not find this road .

The Bible compares the way to hell and destruction as broad and this reminds me of a highway . Anything goes here . This road is one of pleasures in sin and the love of this world . There seems to be nothing to lose . Many people find it easier to go on this road as it may seem comfortable and more convenient but at the end of this road is death, hell and destruction .

The ‘narrow’ road, though seemingly difficult to find and traverse , should not be confused with prejudicial selection . There is no one that has more of a ‘right’ than another to walk on this road . Every one has an opportunity to have life. The gift of salvation through Jesus Christ is for everyone and is available today if only you believe with your whole heart and confess with your mouth. This is your chance!

“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Be blessed !

  1. Yes! I speak of this often. I went through the narrow gate when I was 5, though when I reached my teenage years you would think I was on the wide. But through His correction, I got back on the right path. As I have grown in my relationship with the Lord, I have realized the longer I am on the narrow road, through the sanctification process, the narrower it gets. Paul says, work out your salvation, meaning work at your walk with Jesus. ( He certainly did mean you can save yourself.) But rather, you work on being more like Christ, reflecting Him in your motives, speech, and living. So each old garment of sin and self we cast off, we put on more of Christ. And The Way again becomes more narrow.
Keep up the good work, my sister in Christ! And God’s Blessings,
