Day 63- My Jesus Journal- Those Excluded From The Call

And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭9:11-13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I used to think that some people were inherently good and by that I mean that they had no faults . I would have this preconceived notion especially when I go to church and see people with hands lifted up and worshipping God . I would be even more convinced when I see people crying with their hands on their chest as an act of total surrender . I wondered why they even needed Jesus to begin with , because to me , they were essentially perfect.

It is very easy for us to think that we are righteous or more holy than the other person because there is seemingly nothing that we are doing wrong . We flaunt self-righteousness as if it is a badge of honour but neglect the reason Christ came. We place ourselves in our own constructed boxes of sins as if one box of sins is greater than another and we do not see that we altogether fit in one box or category and that is ‘sinner’ .

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Jesus reminds the Pharisees that those who have it all together have no need of a physician . After all a physician’s job proves futile if one is well . Jesus’ purpose is to call sinners to repentance , not those who exude righteousness.

We are who we are by the grace of God through Jesus Christ . The gift of righteousness is bestowed upon us through Jesus Christ . Do not think for a second that we do not need the greatest physician. If we make that mistake , we would have been excluded from the call and the coming of Christ would not have been relevant to us .

Be blessed !
