“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30 KJV
There is a burden that is heavy and there is a burden that is light . Our burden is heavy because we cannot do anything to really help ourselves if not for the help of God . Our burden is also heavy because we are not our own and so we cannot rest in our own way of doing things .
Jesus’ burden is light because in Him there is rest and peace for our weary souls . He knows what we truly need even before we ask and already knows the answer to our individual situations . The burden of Jesus is also light because He already did what needed to done on Calvary’s cross . He already carried a burden that we were meant to carry because of our sins.
In a difficult world , Jesus’ words appeals to everyone who is experiencing the pangs of a heavy burden. A heavy burden is that thing that occupies your mind on a daily basis , causing you to overthink and has no clear solution . A heavy burden can also be that opinion or societal expectation that wants you to be or do something that puts you between a rock and a hard place. Another heavy burden is that secret sin that you have been trying so hard to stop but cannot see anything changing . Whatever your definition of a heavy burden is , Jesus offers us an alternative .
Jesus invites us to come to Him with everything, and there is nothing sweeter than having a heavy burden lifted . Think of that last time you had a great problem but a solution came right on time when you least expected it . That is what happens when we come unto Him and give Him all that had been on our minds . He is waiting to relieve you of that heavy burden . Where Jesus is , that is where you can rest . That is where your heavy burden is lifted and His burden is truly light .
