“Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away.”
Matthew 13:47-48 NIV
Jesus gives another important analogy about the kingdom of God. The kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into a lake and caught many fish. The kingdom of heaven is not selective to people from a certain race , nationality or sex. In the same way that all the fish could be caught , so it is that God wants to bring each and every one of us into his kingdom.
“Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.”
Matthew 18:14 KJV
God is not on the boat waiting to select just one type of fish or one group of people. The call to salvation is an open call for all who truly want to receive Jesus Christ.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16 KJV
The problem is not whether the net is big enough to hold the fish as heaven has enough space. Heaven is ready to rejoice with joy when even one more sinner is won to Christ .
“I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.”
Luke 15:7 KJV
1. The Kingdom of Heaven through Jesus Christ is a chance for the unrighteous to become righteous .
Jesus Christ is our chance to become righteous. When one continues in sin and unrighteousness , it is essentially a refusal of the grace of God through Jesus Christ. Despite this reality , God’s net of the gospel is still reaching out to believers and unbelievers. The grace and mercies of God through Jesus is our chance to enter the kingdom of Heaven.
2. The kingdom of heaven is associated with a day of judgement.
The righteous and the unrighteous will be judged on judgment day . Only those who have believed wholeheartedly in Jesus Christ will be saved. The unrighteous will go to a blazing furnace where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. The good news is that the grace of God is still working in our lives. Today, we still have a chance to choose life by confessing Jesus Christ with our mouths and believing that God raised him from the dead.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Romans 10:9-10 KJV
