Day 74 – My Jesus Journal – What Is The Heart Behind Your Words?

This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭15:8‬ ‭AMP‬‬

We are familiar with the verse in Matthew 12 : 34 that speaks about our speech coming from the abundance of our hearts . Yet , Jesus gives an example here of people who seemingly ‘honour’ Him with their words, but their hearts are far away from Him.

Many of us may profess our undying love for Christ and preach to others and may even appear outwardly close to God . It may just be a case where are be faking it till we make it . It is easy for us to be obsessed with, and impressed by the idea of being near to God but not necessarily seeking Him with our hearts .

This hypocritical nature is what Jesus Christ was speaking about in Matthew 15. If our hearts are filled with hypocrisy , our speech will be littered with vain words . Jesus Christ seems more interested in our hearts being genuinely close to Him than mere words that may not mean a thing . I believe that is why Jesus Christ encourages us not to keep on babbling in prayer with the mindset that God will hear us because of our many words . He wants us to be sincere in what we are saying.

“And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jesus wants us to have pure hearts because that is the only way we will truly see God and have an encounter with Him . If our hearts are filled with malice , hatred and envy , we cannot see God because He is a good and loving father. Only when our hearts are filled with sincerity and purity , we will truly see God .

You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Pray that God will fill our hearts with all we need to sincerely seek Him.

Be Blessed !
